Quaker activists take note!
Are you sick and tired of how the mainstream press reports on issues that matter to you? Do you feel powerless to make quaker voices heard?
Take heart. Northumbria Area Meeting has begun exploring a new form of journalism which gives those with no background in newspapers and broadcasting a chance to undertake investigative work.
Quakers who are career journalists need not fear this. The movement which started out as informal blogging on the internet is developing into a structured alternative media with training for reporters.
Public Interest Journalism is tailor-made for Quakers wanting to speak truth to power.
Want to know more? Democracy campaigner Patrick Chalmers, a former Reuters' journalist, and Judy Kirby of Alnwick Meeting ran a pilot training session at Newcastle Meeting House on 2nd August 2014.
Patrick showed how to make video news reports to upload to the internet using smartphone video technology.
